hdparm spindown not working because app is constantly accessing?

Hi All
I cant get hdparm -S x to spindown my harddrive, since I guess there is an application repeatedly, about every second acessing my hd. How can I identify this application, and then get my hd to spin down after 30 min?

opensuse 10.3 64bit
thinkpad t61p 2.4ghz, intel pm965 chipset, 100gb 7200rpm 16mb buffer hitachi sata150 hd
