I guess I should have been more explicit and specified "store" but I
never mess with this stuff so pardon my sloppy specification <g>. To
the wife, it's all one "thing" so the store was actually most of the
question.
One more question: do I need to convert the files she downloads (in
Windows) using the Win app or can Amarok et. al. handle the format? I
only made a quick pass but didn't have any immediate success when I
tried.

The only way I found to manage correctly my new ipod classic is to use
vmware 6 with USB 2 under windows XP (!) with the last Itunes
.
