Re: Changing over to Linux Completely.

A book? What's that? lol, just kidding. Back in the day I would buy the SuSE
Box that would come with two manuals: Admin Guide and User Guide. I don't
know if openSUSE produces a box anymore as I just download the .iso :)

It has an installation guide now. The guides are available for download
as well.

I always use the search function here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org

2. If not for Suse, then maybe for Linux in general as most of the
distro's have migrated over to the rpm package management system.

You favourite bookstore should have books on using linux.

3. What is the easiest way to get multimedia working under Linux?
I have an ATI video card integrated into my Laptop.
I have a Pinnacle HD stick pro - USB television capture device.
I have a Pinnacle DV170 capture deviced
I would like to play all of my media through one program - I do
not mind registering and paying if that will help, but I would prefer
to make the most logical choice to obtain this type of result.
I also need to get my SD card reader working - it is some kind of
TI variant.

Not much to say here, but Google? I tend to just put the search word "linux"
in front of the hardware when I search for how to install or get a piece of
hardware working under Linux.

4. With regards to multimedia, what is a good way to get the mp3's I
have working? Is registering a codec going to save me some time?

Add repositories to Yast or The Smart Package Manager. Then uninstall xine
and install libxine from the Packman repos. Oh, make sure to install
w32codec rpm.

5. Is there an External Video card Option for the HP Laptop?

External Video Card? You mean attaching a monitor to a laptop? If so,
that "Just Works".

6. My laptop also has a remote control, is there someway to get this
working?

Dunno. Mine doesn't and I haven't used a remote with a computer (yet).

7. I seem to be having problems with Yast and installing the kernel
source files, so I cannot seem to compile my video card drivers. Is
there another way to get the Kernel and Source installed?

Install "The Smart Package Manager" (search for 'smart') and see if that
installed the kernel-source.

All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust,
sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.
