Video problem

Today I noticed the KDE desktop had some minor but annoying flicker. It
was fine up to today. I checked the desktop setting, and it was at 50Hz.
I changed it to 56Hz (the only other setting listed), and the desktop
flicker was gone. Now when I play a lot of games, like Doomsday,
Transfusion, etc., there's an annoying flicker on those. Other games
I've tried don't do this, so it seems like it's not the games causing
it. This never happened before today. I tried changing to 16 bit color
in Yast (Sax, actually) but it didn't help. So I set it back to 24 bit
color. The desktop sometimes changes back to 50Hz after trying some
games, though I'm not sure the games are causing that. In Yast, I tried
manually entering "60" for the vertical refresh rate, but that made it a
bit worse. I tried "65" and got the "out of range" message on the
monitor, so I took out that entry, left it blank like it was before. I
have an NVidia GeForce 660 and a ViewSonic VA703b LCD monitor. So for
now I'm settling for a flicker-free desktop. I can't get rid of the
flicker in those games, though. It's not severe, but it's annoying. I've
been running this setup for over a year, and this is the first time I've
ever had a problem with the video.
