did you compile the kernel and did you recompile the nvidia driver
thats if you used the nvidia driver from their web site.

If the OP's situation is the same as mine, this kernel update was done via online update.

Watching the progress, I was pleased to see that after applying the main kernel delta, it was downloading and applying x11-video-nvidiaG01 and nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default automatically.

OP obviously got an error message - I have a blank screen. (Pls excuse posting from 'the other side' until I get time to repair openSUSE)
