installing ATI driver

I've just put in openSUSE 10.2 and I'm trying to get a new ATI Radeon 9250 video card driver installed. I've downloaded it from ATI, a pgm. ending with .run, their proprietary installer, as they put it. My problem is, even after logging into the directory as root, I'm told I don't have access to run the file. I'm in a bash shell as root typing ../filename.run, but being denied access to the file.
Tips?
Thanks.
p.s. yes, I'm new to linux
.
