That could very well be.
In particular, where I worked before retiring (aerospace/defense) it could
grounds for immediate termination. When in doubt, ask about the policy.
It also depends on how you ask it and to whom. I have gained access to
many things and have priveledges I should not have. e.g. a part of the
website from the department I work is outside the company with knowldge
rom the IT department.
They even ask me if they can add stuff.
Also I have at another company complained that I could not download
something and they told me how to go around the firewall.
A lot of it is plain old fashioned social engineering. It helps that I
know how IT people think and they see that I am not some idiot asking
some silly things. In 95% of the time I will know wether it is possible
and feasable for them to do.
Where other people sometimes wait for a change for several days or
weeks, I get result in minutes. :-D
I am *NOT* supporting dumbass pointyhairs and other control phreaks. There
are very good reasons for a corporate firewall without their turf wars.
yeah, they are there so you have a bit of a chalange. :-D
