openSUSE 10.3

i've noticed suse takes a long time to give up on TCP connections,
compared to a winders box here. if I telnet to some address/port that I
know isn't right, it takes about two minutes before it decides to give
up. this has become a bit annoying with some apps, waiting for it do
die because I accidentally typed the port wrong or something. Any tips?

You've obviously got far too much time on your hands - get a hobby,
try reading a book or two.

Or learn to type.

I have too much time?? ME? are you shitting me? with little troll
comments like those? obviously you two are jokers.

i DON'T have time, to wait 2 minutes for ssh and ODBC gui apps to
timeout, for which there is no Ctrl-C. if you know anything about TCP
and IP networking, you know these things are configurable. i'd like to
know how to configure it on SUSE.
