So, you're saying it exits your *current* GUI on vc 7? Is there
anything on vc8? If you go to vc7, are there any error msgs?
Yes, it exists vc 7 and no, there is nothing on vc 8. I do not see any
erros in vc 7 as ther is no more vc 7.
Try dropping to rl 3 and then do a 'normal' X:
OK, will see what happens there. At least I should be able to see the
errors. I think this is the pointer I needed. Will try it tomorrow.
Also, What happens if you give it a different window manager:
startx icewm -- :1
The same.
OK, I tried it and doing `startx -- :0` and then `startx -- :1` launched
KDE in both terminals. KDE is the standard, so that is to be expected.
However, only one screen of my multiscreen worked. I could move my mouse
over it, but it changes in a cross. The background script that I have
and that runs every two minutes placed a nice lady in the background, so
that worked as well. But no mouse action.
Next I tried `startx icewm -- :0` and that brought up kde. Replacing it
for windowmaker? KDE!
So I have a feeling that even though startx is still available, it has
been replaced by something else.
WARNING AHEAD !!
Can anybody try out `startx -- :1` when on openSUSE 11.0 in a terminal.
WARNING !!! WARNING !!!
Please see that all your programs are saved. What happens with me is
that my X session closes and none of the programs save anything. I need
to login again.
Not very dangerous, but best close all applications just to be sure.

At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer you will
find at least two human errors, including the error of blaming it on
the computer.
