Yes.

However, now that you *have* done the install, you *should* have an OS
installed on the hard drive.

What I am suggesting is that you now *insert* the CD back into the drive,
boot from it (which has worked up to now) and select "Hard-Disk" and see if
this will successfully boot from the hard disk.

As I mentioned, I was having similar problems to what you are experiencing.
However, the OS was there and I could boot into it if I selected "Boot From
Hard Disk" from the DVD. This worked reliably for me while I was trying to
get this to work.

Hello Don,

I selected to boot from the hard drive through the Live CD splash
screen like you suggested. The screen switches to DOS mode and
displays "Booting from local disk..." and then I see the blinking
cursor again. No other activity.

I booted the system off a knoppix disk so I could have a look at the
drive. I see that my two partitions are present so the partition
portion of the installation worked. After mounting /dev/hda2 to /
realroot I can see that there's 2GB of data on my hard drive so it
looks like the install also copied files to the hard drive. I do see
the /boot directory with the kernal and grub directory. I'm trying to
re-install the grub bootloader now. I'm getting an error message "/
dev/hda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive". I feel like
installing a bootloader should be a completely trivial process these
days... The grub-install command is nowhere near as easy as "sys c:"
in DOS...

Thanks,

Rob
