ok, i've 'suffered' with this long enough...need some adult guidance,
tia:
currently running fully patched
SUSE Linux 10.3
KDE 3.5.7
2.6.22.18-0.2-default #1 SMP i686 athlon
motherboard ASRock K8Upgrade-760GX
North Bridge: SiS 760GX Chipset
nVidia GeForce FX 5500 with 3D support
need more, just ask..
began immediately after installing 10.3 (about 3 months ago), now if
i try to (in KDE)
1.) switch to a different user by right click on desktop > "Switch
user" (say to get to the sign-in page so i can move from KDE to Gnome)
*OR*
2.) if i right click desktop > "Log Out [user]" > "End Current Session"
in either path the result is the same: black screen, no mouse
pointer, nothing works....can not do anything but power button, can't
Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or nuttin i tried..
i've tried a few variations of acpi= with no luck...and wonder if
anyone here knows how to help??
DenverD
i can only GUESS the problem MAY BE self inflicted because of the
(stupid) way i migrated from 10.2 (where the problem didn't exist) to
10.3, *IF* the code that is mangled is inside my /home...might it be?
if so, then you might need to know that to migrate i copied my 10.2
/home/[user] to /home/[user]-old, then during 10.3 install told it to
use the old home..
when i booted up the first time in 10.3 expecting to only need to
move some email etc to the new /home i was surprised and disappointed
that MY desktop icons, panels, etc etc were not there and in a fit
stupidity i rsynced -old over the new..
stupid, i know...BUT, i did get my desktop back...and except for the
switch user thing all seems pretty ok, and stable..
