Re: Backup Question <System & User configuration>

OK, first we must be sure that you indeed can not connect or that the
problem is a DNS problem. Do `ping 64.233.167.99` (ctrl-c to stop) and
then do `ping google.com` and see what happens. If the first doesn't
work, it is a connection problem.
If the first works and the second doesn't, then it is a DHCP preoblem
related to the image above.

If those do not work above, reading on is useless.

Add e.g. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as Name Server 1 and 2. Or
use those from your provider.

I have a feeling that if I can get rid of the DHCP-enable option (the
grayed-out button in the pict in url above), then after changing to
static IP & DNS (ie I would eneter them manually from provided by
ISP), it would resolve the problem, since the past week, I had net
access with the static IP option). Any suggestions/further steps on
how to resolve this?

See above. Also look at what is in the other tabs. It is not enough to
do a new installation.

There are 2 Network Interfaces in the sytem: eth0 (Mainboard nvidia
Ethernet Card (mcp73), that I don't use) & the TI NDIS Device referred
to above (it's hot-pluggable to USB port of computer from the corresp
port of DSL router...gets detected immediately). Tried setting the
Ethernet to DHCP (as I don't use it), disposed off with the gnome
Network Manager applet & ...the grayed-out buttons were not there
anymore & I could de-select the DHCP option....then re-configured &
entered the static IP, DNS's, & now the net connection is as before.

Thanks,
.
