Knoppix 3.6 gives me 4 penguins and then a blinking cursor.
So it is clearly a hardware issue.

I also have tried a WinXP somebody gave me and the results are no better
there. The moment the installation process should start nothing happens
anymore.

You can try this out and see if it boots

64-bit
