Re: Creative SB X-Fi issues

I installed OpenSuSE 11.0 (x86-64) on a system that has this sound

problem also exists with other distros.

Creative's beta driver has not been updated for recent changes in the
kernel.

Strangely enough, sound does work when OpenSuSE is installed as a
VMWare image and run on Windows XP, using the same hardware. In this
case the driver is snd-ens1371, which cannot be installed in a native
OpenSuSE installation.

VMWare always emulates an ENS1371 sound card by using the sound driver
of the host system.

I'm wondering if anyone knows something more current about this.

James got some documentation from Creative several months ago, but there
is no driver yet. Apparently, he doesn't have enough free time to write
or complete the driver. At the moment, there is no plan or estimate for
when it might be finished.
