Hi Leslie

Greetings:
I've installed (clean) Opensuse 11.0 and tried to install VMware
Workstation 4.5.2. Even after applying various any-any patches (115, 116,
117 (b, c, and d)), vmware.config crashes out when trying to compile the
modules. Admittedly, I told it to use gcc 4.3 despite being warned.
I then installed VMware Server 1.0.8 and this time there were no problems
installing (also with gcc 4.3). I copied over my legacy VMworkstation
Windows98 virtual machine, opened it with VMware Server, and allowed it
to be upgraded. It then worked fine, except that I could not access my
host only network (Windows: "network cannot be accessed"). I did note
that the vmware-config for Workstation asks you for a user name and
password whereas the vmware-config for Server does not. Also, the program
vmware-smbpasswd, which allows you to add users to the Workstation, does
not exist in the Server installation.
I shall probably have to wait until an any-any update appears that fixes
the problem, but any comments and suggestions would be welcome.
I have under OpenSuse 11.0, without any patches. I ignored the gcc
version warning:
VMware Workstation 6.5.0 build-118166
VMware Server 2.0.0 build-116503
VMware Player 2.5.0 build-118166
They all work just fine.
greetings
