Hello,
I've been trying to install Opensuse 11.1 this evening on my laptop, but
aborted because I hit several issues that I didn't have time for to
resolve.
First, although the installer is checking for existing linux installs,
it suggest to overwrite my Kubuntu partition, sdb5.
Second, after editing the partitioning settings to install Opensuse in
sdb1 and proceeding to the next installation step, it appears that Grub
doesn't have an entry for my existing Kubuntu. Now, it's largely my own
"fault" that I don't know (yet) how to add it manually, but I would have
expected it to be just there. Somehow this reminded me of Windows trying
just to overwrite an existing linux install ;-)
My system is an HP laptop with 2 SATA HD's. This is my current setup:
sda1: WinXP (pre-installed)
sda2: Recovery WinXP
sda3: Datadisk for WinXP
sdb1: empty, want to install Opensuse 11.1 in here (need to format)
sdb2: SWAP
sdb3: doesn't seem to exist (just found this out), haven't got a clue
why
sdb4: extended partition, containing:
sdb5: / root partition for Kubuntu
sdb6: /home partition for Kubuntu
sdb7: /boot partition for Kubuntu
Cheers,
Marc
It would help if you had posted output from
fdisk -l /dev/sda
fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Is your Kubuntu running LVM?
OpenSuse 11.1 gives you an option to install by Partition or LVM,
and when you choose manually partition you should be able to format /dev/
sdb1 as / root partition for Suse, not format the /dev/sdb5-7
Personally I think you're partitioning is messed up and why I'd like to
see the fdisk -l for /dev/sdb
.
