Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done,
and why. Then do it.

What difference does it make?
In general only a little. Bottom posting allows one
to read down the entire message and then post a reply
at the bottom.
Top posting requires that when one gets to the bottom
one go back to the top and post your reply.
When a third person reads a bottom posted message, he
reads the entire thing (or skips it, if he's seen it
before) and puts a response at the bottom.
But for a top posted message, the third person still
has to look at the whole thing, including material
already seen to check that no new material has been
added at the bottom -- and then go back to the top
to add his comments.
Many postings have comments interspersed with the text,
requiring a scan through and allowing one to add
interspersed comments. Again, this can be done in one
pass.
In real life it is best to trim posts, omitting unneeded
material. Some folks won't even read a post of 100 lines
or more.
