I suggest that the open software scheme appears to be becoming a
commonly used alibi for what appears to be some pretty unprofessional
software management.

If sound worked with version 11.0 then I can see no reason that it
shouldn't work with 11.1.

Whether 11.1 is a "later" or "improved" version of 11.0 is immaterial
as nearly all users are going to assume that 11.1 is an update. To
argue differently is much like the Red Queen and words meaning what
one wants them to mean.
