unreadable fonts with konqueror over X11

Hi all,

I'm running opensuse 10.3 on my host, and centos 5 on the remote
machine that has kde 3.5.4 . When starting konqueror on the remote
machine over ssh, I get unreadable fonts as shown here:

Maybe this is due to non-scalable fonts? Simple apps like xclock
render correctly. Please help.
