For some reason my PCChips A31G onboard ethernet will not connect to the
internet with OpenSuse only. It shows configured and is connected to my
router with the correct host name and mac address. I can ping the router
just fine but nothing will go out of the router. I always have to use a
netgear PCI ethernet card to make OpenSuse work online.
I have tried both with IPv6 enabled and disabled.
Neither W2K nor Windows 7 has a problem getting on the net with the SIS
190 onboard ethernet on the same computer.
I don't understand why it can be connect to the router but not go out on
the internet because of something before this connection????
I have two of the same motherboard - both had failures of the ethernet. I no
longer use one of them - too many problems, and the other works ok with a
cheapie add in ethernet interface.
I avoid SiS whenever possible - ever since I could not use install on SATA
drives with a mb using their chip that was in production for five years
before I got one. Eventually, openSUSE started working with it but by then
I had moved to a mb with a decent SATA chip.
I doubt if SiS supports Linux effectively yet. Until I see solid proof, I
won't buy another mb with any SiS interface chip. There are too many
decent systems out there to waste money and time on crap.
