Then many procedures beginning with "boot to runlevel 3" are evil ;-)

The qualifier here is "unless you know why you need to and understand the
risks" for #1 - not needed for 2 and 3 as they are complete as is. #1 is
rarely needed because there is usually another way - but not always.
