Do you mean that a driver could be available in TurboPrint even if it
is not listed below the headline tag "Supported Printers/Canon"?

I have no idea what the software does. All I know is that even if
hardware is not listed, it might be working. This is not limited to
Linux.

One place I used to work had several printers without drivers. By using
drivers from another brand of printers they were still able to let us
print.

Now if you are going to try it out or not is up to you. If you do, tell
us how it went. Just curious, the time beween the first sugestion and
your last past is easily more then the time it would have taken to
install it and try it out.

If it doesn't work, tyou can always ask your money back. ;-)

houghi

ha you lazy i done a google search and found this

http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010662.asp

it is a linux driver for your printer it took me 1 MIN TO FIND!!!!!.
i can't say weather it will work but the driver is from canon it's self.

The link you refer to directs to an earlier version from Canon (V2.2).
As described in my initial question I am using a later version (v2.3),
which resulted in the error message regarding a missing lib file. The
missing lib file problem was solved after the response from Inge S.

I can proceed according to the instructions (V2.3) from Cannon but I
am still struggling to get the printer to work from my PC with
OpenSuse 11.4. The printer is LAN connected an works well from other
PCs with Windows.
is an earlier v

turbo print does support lan/network connected printers

have you tried v2.2.

if you go to turbo print which is below

http://www.zedonet.com/en_feedback_form_tp.phtml

tell them your problem and maybe they will write a driver for
your printer.

From my searching it looks like you won't be able to use your
printer. on the canon web site the last working opensuse os
for you printer was 11.1 which if i remember correctly was
the same for my canon printer. when i got 11.2, was when i
had to get turbo print.

have you tried connecting you printer to pc via usb and seeing
if printer works. Ie to test printer driver

Earlier I used OpenSuse 11.3 and managed to get my printer to work
with V2.0 SW from Canon. I was hoping for that V2.3 SW from Canon
should work with OpenSuse 11.4. That seems however, just now, not to
be possible.

I have already sent i feedback to TurboPrint asking for information
about possible future support for network connected LBP5050 printer.
So far no response.

I have not tried to connect the printer via USB. This would anyway not
solve my problem as the printer is located "far away" from my PC with
OpenSuse 11.4.

Thanks for your efforts to assist me.
