It most certainly can be done. Use VNC. Just as in OSX

What do you mean here? What desktop where?

He has no idea. It is rare with remote X to use whole desktops.

Also the subject talks about VNC. If your questuion is if VNC is
possible, then yes, it is. However that is somewhat of a s typical X
login.
