Mysterious change in hostname

Since I started using Linux in my own PC (this was back in Suse 9.3 times)
the hostname of my PC has always been "a8" which I had set manually when
installing suse (the name's not important here). This was like 5 years ago
and has remained even since, and set up the same with each system upgrade
(I'm currently using OpenSuse 11.2).
A few days ago I changed my ADSL modem. I did no modifications to OpenSuse
itself. The *only* thing that I changed was the ADSL model (an external
device to which the PC connects via an ethernet cable). Nothing has changed
on the ISP's side either; the only thing that has changed is the ADSL modem
device itself.
After that OpenSuse is showing "dhcppc0" (or sometimes "dhcppc1") as the
hostname. I have no idea where this name is coming from, or what caused the
change.
Could someone help me solve this mystery?
