We run and support dozens of AIX servers all running Exabyte 8mm tape
drives. Yes, some have failed and needed repair/replacement. But
NEVER has a tape backup gone bad or been unreliable. And that's daily
since 1991.
For our Linux servers we installed VXA-1 drives with a SCSI card and
we've been using BRU-Pro for our multi-server backups. Works just
great and restoration of a file(s) is a breeze.
Now we're playing with their free CRU (crash recovery utility) which
uses the same drives and allows a full system restore.
Good luck.
