On RH9 boxes, the "configurator" programs are often named 'redhat-*',
e.g., 'redhat-config-xfree86'.

Hmmm... Very odd.

1) Have you installed all of the RH9 software updates?

2) Like many others, my Linux box locks up from time-to-time when I'm in
X and a graphics-intensive screensaver kicks in. (I've experience this
problem with various hardware platforms and with different Linux
versions/distros. My guess is some of these screensavers are poorly
written, or (less likey) there's a subtle bug somewhere in the XFree86
code.) The point here is this: when the system locks up, I cannot do
anything but power cycle the box. Power cycling a computer that's "up
and running" is a BAD THING - this can (and often does!) corrupt the
computer's file system(s).

3) Which versions of XFree86 are you running on your RH9 and Slack9
boxes? Are the versions the same or different?
