I believe that will set the serial port to be the console, IIRC. I'll check
into that...

I'm sorry, yes, SuSE8.2 Pro. I got the latest kernel source from SuSE (I'll
double-check that this weekend) and built from scratch. Still the same
symptoms. I noticed that the BIOS of this thing says P03 (after I blew the
dino crap off of it...) and Intel posts a BIOS update of P12. That needs to
be the next step, perhaps that will give me more control over the BIOS error
of no keyboard and that will help...
