That's what I started with. However, after two nights of this, I started to
question this logic. Of course I wasn't typing away like a madman for
six/seven/eight hours each night, I was doing a lot of web page reading, but
after two nights of rpming libraries and different libraries, etc, I gave
up. The deeper I got into it, the more I was having to go.

There is an apt for redhat, but one thing I found out, the apt only works on
rpm packages. I guess I thought since it was apt, it would work on Debian
packages as well. Wrong assumption on my part. That lesson took an hour or
two figure out.

> Why on earth don't you just use sendmail like the rest of the universe?
Cause I've heard a lot of bad things about.it. Over the past few years, I
haven't heard any good things about Sendmail, other than it's got more
functionality than Microsoft Exchange, and is just about as insecure. Not
very flattering.

No, I don't. And that is why I'm considering punting the whole linux email
server stuff and going back to what I know, MDaemon on NT. It worked. So
why the frustration? I figured it was time to learn a better more robust
email system. But when everyone tells me oh it just works, and mine
doesn't, it's tough to justify it.

> > for RedHat on rpmfind.net.
I have been doing that, but when I do it for exim, I find 29 rpms, and none
of the distributions says RedHat, let alone any version of RedHat. Hey, I
might be typing something wrong, but the Search input box says exim and none
of the dists are RedHat. Maybe there are equivalent dists on that list,
however, they aren't immediately obvious.

Is the PLD Linux Distribution work on the RedHat systems? I guess so if you
are suggesting it. Thank you.

Why 3 instead? Cause when I used exim in Debian, there was an eximconfig
program and that got me a working server. Why not stick with it? I was
hoping to have two RedHat boxes cause my other server is running WebLogic
(and WLS says they only run on RedHat). Why not just use 4? I want to use
the latest and greatest, however, with over a week without a working email
server, reading all kinds of online docs, and getting nowhere, I'm about to
punt the box.

Weird strategies? To be honest with you, I started out with a sane plan.
Install Debian on one box, use as email server and db server. Install RH9
and weblogic on the other server and concentrate on J2EE work. Then I got
greedy thinking I understood the linux stuff and wanted to have RH9 on both
boxes. That started me down a road of insanity. As bad as the Microsoft
world is, and you may disagree with me, things just work. My email server
before took me two hours to install and start exchanging email. Why not go
back to it? First NT's not officially supported anymore, and I wanted to
move up a notch with unix/linux. Maybe it's not the right time for it or
me.

You had some tough questions. Not always a bad thing to question your/my
reasons for doing this. Nothing I haven't been doing for the past week.
