Hey
I have a weird problem. My SuSE Linux Personal 9 system locks about 4-9
minutes after X/KDE or GNOME loads. I'm talking about a complete
hardware freeze, where the only option is to hold in the power to shut
down. This doesn't happen if X isn't loaded. Here's the interesting
part: I experimented with kernal boot options and found that the
hdc=ide-scsi option is the culprit. If I boot without that option, the
system is as solid as a rock. Unfortunately I can't use my CD-RW when I
boot without the option.
I have an AMD Athlon system with a KT400 chipset, an nVidia GeForce4 MX,
a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 HDD and an LG CD-RW -- all pretty standard stuff.
Does anyone have any idea why the hdc=ide-scsi option is causing X to
freeze?
BTW, RH9 freezes in the same way.
Many thanks,
John
