Laptop DHCP problems

Are PCMCIA network cards different some how?

I have a laptop, I have a DHCP server, in tty12 I display all the log
messages. In tty12 I see the DHCPREQUEST and the DHCPACK when the laptop
starts up, *twice*.

When I run winipcfg on the Win98SE laptop it has all the DHCP assigned
settings (Gateway, DNS server etc). However I cannot ping from the
server to the laptop or vice versa.

If I click 'Renew' in Winipcfg I don't see the Request or Ack and a
message pops up in Windows saying that "DHCP server Unavailable".

If I assign a static address to the NIC the problem still exists. I only
have one PCMCIA card so I can't test if it is the card or not. I doubt
it because I can see the link light and it requests and receives an IP
address from my DHCP server.

It is a Xircom NIC/56k Modem combo card and I am using the latest
drivers from the Intel Web site.

This is a brand new install of Win98SE. The problem existed before and
after I upgraded to IE6-SP1.

All other machines that get a DHCP assigned address work fine.

Does anyone know *anything* else I can try?

PS. Everyone knows what PCMCIA stands for right? (People Can't Memorise
Computer Industry Acronyms)
