3dfx Glide Error on Debian

I have a 3dfx voodoo 3, 16M
Running Debian and can not get 3D acceleration to work.

The test utilities in /usr/lib/glide2/bin all give the error:

gd error (glide): Can't find or access Banshee/V3 board
test27: test27.c:99: main:
 Assertion `grSstQueryHardware( &hwconfig )' failed.
                                                     Aborted

tdfx kernel module is loaded and module section in XF86Config looks like
this:
