I found that I also got faster speeds when I switched from USB to ethernet.
I don't know why the tech who set it up put it on USB in the first place -
you'd think the ISP would want to make their connection as fast as possible
(I'd have done it myself but they don't give you the hardware unless they
come and install it...).
