You most likely missed to build some of the new stuff needed by Gnome2. I do
warmly suggest you try to get hold on a premade setup of RPMs for Mandrake
than take the long and dangerous way of trying to do it yourself.
Usually I do suggest to download src.rpm and rebuild those, but in the case of
Gnome2, I don't recommedn that.
