When I reinstalled I saw that it had to be placed in a directory called
Linux, so I didn't try to install it to the root.
By the way, I once made it beyond this point and it started unpacking
packages, like kde and other stuff.
I had too little free space on the D: disk that time, so it crashed.
So these instructions in rc.parts can work, under some conditions.
This time I saw an advanced setting in the setup, I could tell it what
partition to use, so I told it to use /dev/hda5.
It translated that to a longer path, ending in lun0/part5, which I later
found in the FSTAB file.
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5 / umsdos defaults,umask=222 0 0
/proc /proc proc 0 0
/dev /dev devfs noauto 0 0
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 /mnt/part0 vfat user,auto,exec,suid
0 0
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target1/lun0/part1 /mnt/part1 vfat user,auto,exec,suid
0 0
This it what FSTAB looks like, with some wordwrapping in the newsreader
added.
So I am back to square 1, the installation hangs in the same place.
I'm gonna read some man files on mount now.
I end this message with the rather long log file called messages, if
somebody is interested in the details and would like to help.
I have not inserted any echo messages in this new install yet, but it is
very likely that it stalls on the same place as before.
It does not loop there, it just gets stuck on that command line in rc.parts
while [ -d "$mpoint" ]
echo "rc.parts step8"
do
does not result in any message from the inserted echo line
