Lots of people do not pick the correct options on their burning
software and end up with an image file on the cd instead of the cd
being an image of the file on the harddrive. When you look on the
new cd, the first thing you should see are the directories and files.
Mandrake example: names with / on the end are directories

autorun.inf dosutils/ INSTALL.txt Mandrake/ tutorial/

Old burners have been known to have problems burning
re-writables (CD-RW) hope you are using quality CD-Rs.
Verify your cd burner can burn a 700mb cd.
You might want to check http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
for your burner.

Verify bios has cdrom first in boot order and
be sure bios has Plug and Play OS=no/off/false
Resources Allocation : Manual, if you cannot get AUTO to work.
Disk drives are strapped Master/Slave not Cable select.

Always compare the md5sum on a iso download
with the site's copy before burning to verify
you had a good download.

Choose the menu command "File"->"Burn CD image"

Choose as file type: all files (*.*)

Select the ISO image file

Now you will see a dialog, asking you, if you want to supply detailled
image parameters. This is necessary, since Nero needs to know
exactly, what format the image file has to be able to burn it correctly.

Enter the following parameters:
- Mode 1 (assuming, that you created a mode 1 image)
- 2048 bytes per sector (corresponds to a mode 1 sector)
- 0 bytes header and trailer (assuming, the image contains
only "pure" ISO data and no other special header
or trailer)
- no swapping or scrambling (assuming, that the file contains
bytes in the correct order to be written without word swapping)
leave all the checkboxes unchecked. Now you can burn the image.

Click on "burn" and (for safety considerations) use an empty cdr.

This procedures relies upon the assumption, that you have a
"normal" ISO mode 1 image file. You can check this, by opening the
image with a hex editor (maybe UltraEdit, because this prog doesn't
try to read the entire image into memory (after setting the
read-only flag) and look at offset 8000 hex
(this corresponds to sector 16, where the ISO [p]rimary [v]olume
[d]descriptor is stored on cd). If you see some text like "CD001"
(the PVD magic), then burning with the above procedure should work
fine.
