Well, you should have not got peoples backs/hackles up, Linux is dear to
them and the Windows threat is real in some ways, there is bad feeling
created where really there should be none.

There is room for two or three major OS'es including the BSD's and the Mac.
There should be, there should be choice without the need to denegrate and
put down the opposition. I would be worried if Windows totally displaced
Linux, but it never will, some people like the cathederal and others like
the bazaar and some like both, which is good and healthy.

I was suggesting that your problem is an additional problem to that seeing
as you could not get the fix/bootdisk to work.

Either you want to get the machine working with Linux or not. If you do I
suggest you describe the problem properly and send a copy to Greg Wildman to
inform him, also post copies to the two comp.os.linux groups I suggested
which will no doubt give you better technical advice than you are going to
get here. Also you will not get the same argumentative response if you
refrain from derogatory remarks about something held dear to people. Alot of
work goes into creating a distro, alot of work, years of work, and the only
way that things are gotten right is alot of testing and alot of feedback.
Now this goes right back to the kernel, if things are not working on several
modern Linux distributions then the Linux Kernel Mailing List is probably
the place to go, they would like to know about the problem and if it is not
really a problem with the kernel then they are most likely to be able to
tell you so so you know it is not, then you know where you are to a better
degree. You are not wasting their time as there are hundreds of such posts
there a week, if you describe the problem properly and you are going to get
a much better informed reply and as I say you will then know where you are.
You can also inform the Fedora team, I am sure they would like to know.
Otherwise if you donot follow the route I have put forward then you will
never know, and from the kernel developers and device driver developers side
they are less likely to ever fix the bug as no one has bothered to inform
them. This leads to people like you making inflamatory remarks about disros
and shelving Linux, full circle, chicken eats egg, ...

Well I have said my piece and will move on, I suggest we all do...but follow
my advice and you may well have un uptodate Linux running on your Linux box,
who knows...if you don't you may never know.
