The sym53c8xx drivers are and have been broken in kernel 2.6 for quite
some time. And nobody who is capable seems motivated to fix them. It will
not initialize my Yamaha CDburner at all, it in fact locks up the scsi
buss after it fails to initialize the burner. It works fine in 2.4.
There is a month old post that describes the situation perfectly. Asking
if the delay or initialization time could be increased. There is a more
recent post that states that it started after version "i".
the behaviour is this, load modules, buss is scanned, the following is the
results.
Vendor: YAMAHA Model: CRW8824S Rev: 1.00
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
scsi(2:0:4:0): Beginning Domain Validation
