I've got an old system I want to convert to Linux. I've got enough
disk space (10 gb) and memory (128 meg), and a CD ROM drive to support
a modern distro of reasonable size, but the processor is a 166 MHz
AMD.

Given my druthers, I'm looking for a more 'techie' type distro that I
can noodle around with, but that would include a GUI. I have a more
modern machine that I'm going to install something like Mandrake or
Suse on for more work-related stuff.

So the dual question is, what can I get away with and what would your
recommend?

If I weren't interested in gardening and Ireland,
I'd automatically killfile any messages mentioning
'bush' or 'Kerry'
