    Yes, that is what i am trying to do, associate hdc1 with C: and hdc2
    with d: and so on. When I partitioned the disk, I planned the partitions
    and wrote the list on paper and went ahead. Then I installed WinXP (let
    it mess up the MBR) and then Debian (and fixed MBR and started using
    Grub). However, after I did this, I noticed WinXP had made my hdc5 as D:
    and hdc3 as E:. That is what I want to fix now. I have no qualms about
    changing disks in Linux, I know what to change if I change the IDE bus
    -- in Linux, I am perfectly comfortable and quite familiar with the
    drive letters. But I had no idea what would happen if I changed the
    drive letters in WinXP. Just wanted to confirm that WinXP, when I change
    the letters, does not mess the MBR.
