Hello,
I've had that problem for some months now :
DMA on my hda is always turned off at boot and I have to do
sudo hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda every time to turn it on again.
Here's the output I get in /var/log/syslog
Nov 23 22:15:44 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Nov 23 22:15:44 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Nov 23 22:15:45 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }Nov 23 22:15:46 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Nov 23 22:15:46 xp kernel: hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Nov 23 22:15:46 xp kernel: hda: DMA disabled
Nov 23 22:15:46 xp kernel: ide0: reset: success
From what I understand, it's my hdb which seems to have errors (and by
the way, I launched the Seagate SMART and scan utility which didn't
detect anything wrong) so why on earth does the kernel disable DMA on my
hda ?!
Can anyone tell me what's going on ? It's true there's sometimes a sort
of clicking noise coming from my HD (I don't know which one though) but
they work correctly, considering they've been on 24/7 for 3 years.
