I just bought and installed a linksys WRT54G wireless router.
Works fine. I have one wired connection and one wireless
connection into it.

My OS is SUSE, but I don't think the OS should matter at all.

I have set things up so that the device gets its IP number
via DHCP from my cable company (Comcast). However within the
local network everything is assigned a static IP. This way
you can use the router's port forwarding function to connect
to your home machine from the outside.
