Eric,
I experienced the same problems with a laptop. I tried everything I could
think of, including calling Microsoft Tech Support. Bottom line--nothing
fixed it, until I reinstalled XP, and SP2, on the laptop.
Don't ask me why or what caused it.
I diagnosed it by trying to use a 3rd computer to access the shared folders
on the laptop. It couldn't access the laptop but found the samba shares
fine. The linux box could access the shared folders on the other XP box
fine. This led to to believe that the problem was isolated on the one XP
laptop. After reinstalling the OS, everything works fine.
I know this is drastic. I wish I hadn't wasted a month trying to figure out
why things were not working as expected.
Good luck and post your outcome/results here.
