0) Yes. Nuts it is. America won the war - then waltzed the "de-Nazified
"former" Enemy of Liberty right through the gates of Ellis Island and other
ports of entry in the form of non-military former civil servants and
researchers, some of whom, had discovered certain compelling principles of
human motivation while on assignment at places such as dachau, Theriesen, and
Buchenwald. So the US War Department's "Operation Paperclip" brought 'em all
Over Here to these benighted shores. Then we Sensible Folk Back Home got
clobbered with such a consumer ad "blitz"...

1) Well, actually, since RM Nixon's Planned Obsolescence program launched,
back in postwar Ike's day, and was wedded the very next day to the
brain-drained "de-Nazified" execs of the newborn "Motivationally Researched"
consumer/retail advertizing industry as mentioned above, the answer is
deliberately YES" as far as MS and the chip/mainboard-makers are concerned.
(FWIW, I for one find all that "Make it to Break it" thinking BOGUS to the
MAX.)

2) Well, actually, LOTS of useful, worthwhile, Webful things can be done with
a P-1/133, 128 - 256 megs RAM, six to ten gigs HD, and Linux. (We do
Mandrake.) Each new member of our Linux Operators' * Group gets to build
their own FREE (prior-generation) Web Cruiser with a friend. (Bench space
and parts we got.) Doing this re-educates the (non-zoned-out) interested
public a wee bit, starts many qa fine conversation, leads to the discovery
of /much/ Forbidden Truth like as not, 'n' keeps (a few of) the elder boxes
outta the landfill a wee bit longer on the side to boot. (Yah. Pun. OK.).

and catch a whiff of the club ethos. Pinky and the Brain were dufus-bait -
Tux ALREADY RULES in our world.
