The company I work for had big plans for a Linux rollout early this
summer and the Linux team has been squawking non stop for the las 10
months about how great this is going to be.
Well the idiots just discovered that the new PC's that were ordered
from a local builder, all 800+ of them will NOT fully work with linux
due to the onboard RAID controller which is a VIA VT6410 chipset. As
it turns out there are some hacks to make this controller sort of work
with Linux and VIA due support older versions of the Linux kernel so
these options are being considered but it doesn't look good at this
moment in time.
Personally I couldn't give a hoot about Linux as I am involved in
networking and mostly use Windows but I find it humorous to see the
penguin squad (that's what others in the dept. call them) with their
feathers clipped.
You may never get fired for buying IBM but you can certainly get fired
for suggesting Linux.
