Hi all,
I have a dual 2.8 Ghz Dell PE2650, 2 Gb RAM w/ RHEL3.4 (2.4.21-27.0.2)
running primarily as a mail server, which has taken up the habit of
locking up unexpectedly.
UWimapd2002.1, sendmail8.12.xx, spamassassin2.64-1, apache2, are the
services, 1,600 users. SASLauthd. Broadcom 5700 & 5703 nics. Perc3-DC
I saw some discussion regarding tossing out the tg3 drivers and using
bcm570x. Did that, no better. (Previously had had an incident w/ the
EtherExtremes locking up running at 1Ghz. Stepped them down to 100Mb, no
problem. Go figure).
I found a thread regarding the 2.4 kernel under load, (Oracle, in that
case) involving kswapd misbehaving and locking up hard. No solution but 2.6.
I saw one discussion thread regarding updating all firmware on an HP
server, problem all go away.
Sooooo, has anyone seen the 2.4 kernel misbehaving badly under load?
(This problem has crept up slowly, but the server doesn't wanna run for
more than a workday at this point. Production box. Real headache.
Any anecdotes would even be appreciated, FOAF, you name it.
Thank you,
