Unable to boot Suse 9.2 recently installed. I installed SuSe 9.2 yesterday
then today I installed Mandrake (Mandriva LE2005) also on the same hard
drive (different partitions) and now Suse does not boot from LILO although I
tried adding it to the lilo menu during the Mandrake install). Any help
appreciated on the lilo options/settings for Suse, like what the boot image
path is, what to append, what the path is for the initrd.img
hda (WindowsXP)
hdb (SuSe and Mandrake linux)
SUSE
/dev/hdb1 swap
/dev/hdb2 ext3 (mounted as /)
/dev/hdb3 ext3 (mounted as /home)
MANDRAKE (note when making these new partitions for Mandrake,
the installer made me make them as extended partions, not primary
partitions, since it said I had already created the max number of primary
partitions [hadb1..hdb3]); not sure if this has anything to do with this.
/dev/hdb6 swap
/dev/hdb5 ext3 (mounted as /)
/dev/hdb7 ext (mounted as /home)
For lilo in Mandrake I chose to add an entry, and I gave it the label of
"SUSE Linux", Image location "/boot/vmlinuz", Root location "/dev/hdb2",
Append (I gave no appends as I am not sure what to do here, although
Mandrake append settings were "acpi=ht splash=silent"), Initrd
"/boot/initrd".
During boot of SuSe from lilo, just before the kernel panic the following is
displayed:
umount /initrd/sys failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Initrd finished
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found.
Try passing init= option to kernel.
Any help or ideas? I can mount /dev/hdb2 (SuSe root system) to see files on
SUSE, etc. I want to be able to boot multiple linux distros, this is my
first attempt at trying to do so.
