Since Linux is a minority in the Desktop arena I dont think you could
consider any everyday linux user typical. Typical is the user that
occasionaly calls tech support form minor problmes. Needs han holding
when doing ANY type of hardware or software install that isnt
Next...Next...Next. Your Mom, My dad, Peters Grandma, well OK, maybe
not but I hope you see what I mean.
What I see happening here is people reading my headers and thinking
this is a slackware bash session, which it isnt. I recall a very
similar exchange the last time I mentioned slack and ease of
installation in another post, I will have to remember to stay away
from that word on Usenet.
This all stems from comments on Distrowatch. All this said if Slack,
which has awesome word of mouth if you read newsgroups, is listed as
8th in the top 10. If it were easier for the typical "I just want to
install and go" newb it would be closer to the top, dont you think?
Looking at the way the top 10 is structured that assumption seems to
make perfect sence. Everything at the top of this list has extensive
hardware detection, graphical installers and lots of GUI tools for
the CLI impaired, as you move down the list, you get less of those
features and poppularity declines.
Point taken that mayber there is no "typical" user.
