Hello,
I've used FC3 for about a year without any problem. A week ago my wife
printed an OpenOffice document, then shut down the system (at least, this
is what she told me ;-) ). Next day, she tried to print the same document,
and the printer won't respond.
I've spent the whole week trying to find a solution to this problem.
Couldn't find one, and so, I'm unable to use the printer.
The printer will not respond if I try to print a test page either in a
graphical print manager (printconf, or KDE's Print manager), or in text
mode (setup -> printer configuration).
I've tried to print a text page using "lp" commands (lp and lpr):
lp -d lp0 test.txt
lpr test.txt
lpr -l test.txt
The printer won't respond to the first commands; however, it responds
immediately to the third one, which has the -l (unformatted) option.
I would really appreciate if somebody would help me fix the problem. As it
stands now, I'm one split second from re-installing the whole FC3.
I have copied below the debug info (logging) from both cups and foomatic.
Thank you for your help.

Technical data:
- Pentium III - 500MHz on an ASUS motherboard
- 512 MB DRAM
- SCSI HDD and controller
- GeForce2/ 32MB VRAM video card
- Printer HP Deskjet 895Cse, connected locally (parallel port)
- kernel-2.6.11-1.35_FC3, or kernel-2.6.12.2
- KDE-3.4.0
- cups-1.1.22, foomatic-3.0.2-13.4, Omni-0.9.2-1.1, Omni-foomatic-0.9.2-1
- cups uses hpijs driver for the printer; the printer is fully supported by
foomatic and cups.
I have enabled the debug option of cups and foomatic. Turns out that
foomatic (PID 5235 in this case) exits with error 3, as seen below (copy
from the cups_error log):
