Allright, so, I got it powered up somehow, maybe just luck. But I have a
buncha errors. /var/log/messages says:

Aug 26 10:22:54 newt kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3

Any idea how I can get stuff off this thing?

I am in the process of running 'fsck -a' -- is that a bad idea?

oops. fsck outputs:

> fsck -a /dev/sdb1
fsck 1.38 (30-Jun-2005)
/dev/sdb1: recovering journal
fsck.ext3: No such device or address while trying to re-open /dev/sdb1
e2fsck: io manager magic bad!

and /var/log/messages displays:

Is this thing just plain toast?

thanks, all!
