First Major Annoyance

I've just installed Ubuntu and have come across my first major annoyance.
Hope that someone can tell me a fix.

If there's a mailto address on a web page, then Firefox will open
Thunderbird. But if Thunderbird is already open, then I get a dialog box
asking which profile to use. If I select the default one, (the only one),
then I get an error saying it's already open.
